___whipped crème containers
watery northern light
__stunning spring rays
____blinding white, heat alert glare
kept them in the freezer,
plastic tended to melt in the fridge.
Citrine, aureolin streaks on apron
and dress tattled on her activities.
Then fall arrived with sparkling glass jars
lined-up and waiting to be filled
Tubs of light set out to thaw,
dollops of sun
splashed into jar after jar.
Winter sets in but rainy days
find pools of golden light gracing
color books and doll houses—
no one asks—
family and neighbors grateful
yet dread inevitable loss of light.
