West Texas desert bloom
by Tom Murphy

West Texas desert bloom
Fireballs and white panel van

Of security details follows, plates
Unknown, toss down cervezas

Smoke a bowl to exorcise the doom
Peel back the petals to Los Alamos’ Burning Man

Pecos giant donut tumbled down a well
Acrid smoke billows out the cavern cracks

Fried sands a bank of glass
Gun blasts erases anyone caught on tape

No longer alive, but truly Milton’s Hell
Aquifer ditty, no gas, light a match—bloom
