Attempt at Meaning on the Western Marches
by James Owens

an empty ossuary
this raw mouth
: but hot
with the copper
slick smear
blood in splinters
as wind-
driven dark
forms arrive
and arrive
: tension in the
whole body
torque-shuddered
into the tongue
and the throat
poured out
a loud hollow
of riven embers
: the man
was alone
and the devil
forced him
to swallow fire
