Details
by Charles Kesler

If love is in the details
then love me for leaving this note
at the gate where you drive in.
Fifty feet from our front door
you can begin to deal with the scene.
You can begin to deal with my absence.
You already knew it was coming.
You knew I would gas myself to death
on my own misery.
Call the Gas Company and Police.
That’s why I got you the mobile phone.
After the gas clears at least I will
be all together as when you saw me last.
No mess to clean up. Those shotgun
blowouts must be terrible. Anyway
love is in the details. There is
no mess. There is this note.
There is this painful goodbye.
